Budget and Health Advocacy

Government has a responsibility to effectively and efficiently manage all of its resources, to be a good steward, maximizing resources and directing them where they are needed most. Internal operational fixes must be a priority of the city's new leadership; these fixes will ultimately lead to better outcomes and results for children and youth, particularly since the necessary fixes involve systems reforms and a meaningful and transparent budget process.

Budget advocacy

FY 2008

• DC ACT submits testimony for the record on the Department of Health's Medical Assistance Administration's FY 2008 Budget. (April 24, 2007)

  matches up City Council committees and the agencies for which they have oversight responsibility. You will learn, for example, that the Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs (Barry, chair) has responsibility for youth violence prevention programs and lead inspections. The Committee of the Whole oversees school feeding programs.

  In this statement for the record, DC ACT director Angela Jones Hackley reaffirms DC ACT’s commitment to a cabinet level agency for child- and youth-related agency management and oversight.
