DC Action for Children relies heavily on data and policy analyses to inform our work and as one tool to persuade policymakers on issues. We have found the organizations listed below to be useful in our public education and advocacy work.

This agency’s site offers a number of reports related to their quality service improvement initiative and court-related documents.

Child Welfare League of Americawww.cwla.org
CWLA is a national organization that works on the federal level. They provide a wealth of data and policy analysis resources.

DC Fiscal Policy Institutewww.dcfpi.org
The DC Fiscal Policy Institute conducts research and public education on budget and tax issues in the District of Columbia, with a particular emphasis on issues that affect low- and moderate-income residents.

This site provides information about DC Public Schools and the Board of Education. Included is data and budget information.

The mission of the Department of Health is to promote and protect the health, safety and quality of life of residents, visitors and those doing business in the District of Columbia. DOH responsibilities include identifying health risks; educating the public; preventing and controlling diseases, injuries and exposure to environmental hazards; promoting effective community collaborations; and optimizing equitable access to community resources. The department provides a wide range of data on health indicators.

The goal of the city’s mental health department is to develop, support, and oversee a comprehensive, community-based, consumer-driven, culturally competent, quality mental health system. The agency provides comprehensive mental health services to adults, children, youths, and their families. DMH also evaluates and treats individuals referred through the criminal justice system.

The DC Office of Planning (OP) is home to the State Data Center, the division that reports Census and other data useful in planning and policymaking.

The mission of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) is to enhance the fiscal and financial stability, accountability and integrity of the Government of the District of Columbia. They provide a variety of useful information including the city’s budget documents, revenue forecasts and fiscal impact statements.
