Budget Advocacy

Publications

  • What's in it for kids?
Analyzes the District's budget as it relates to children, youth and their families. The annual budget analysis includes a discussion of public policies that directly affect children and youth such as the eligibility for subsidized child care and public health insurance. DC ACT accepts modest contributions for the analysis; all donations help us defray the cost of publishing the analysis.

  • BANTA
includes information about the status of the budget, notices of budget cuts and increases and tools that can assist individuals and organizations in their advocacy efforts. Subscriptions to BANTA are free; the publication is available by e-mail and fax.

  • Step-by-Step Guide to the District Budget
is an 11x17 "map" of the District's budget process. The map includes advocacy strategies that can be used at various points in the process. Available in PDF here and by mail.

  • Tools for Budget Advocacy (April 2005)
This list includes a wealth of information that can help advocates, providers, residents and others prepare to testify at budget hearings or otherwise participate in the District’s budget process.

  • Brief Analysis of Early Childhood Development FY 2006 Budget Proposal (April 2005)
This analysis includes a report of the budget as proposed by the mayor for the Child Care Subsidy Program, goals for services, outstanding issues not addressed in the budget and advocacy opportunities.
